What is a message?
Every time you ask your AI agent something — you type a question and hit send — that counts as a message. Your plan is how many of those you get each month. Most everyday questions use one message; Research, summaries, and web search use a few more, as shown below.
When one question uses more than one message
Not every action is the same weight. Here is how much each type counts against your monthly allowance:
- Everyday chat1 message
Each time you ask your AI agent something in Fast mode.
- Research chat3 messages
Each Research question — when you want a deeper, more thorough answer.
- Summaries3 messages
Compressing a long thread or saving a full summary to your vault.
- Web search2 messages
When DeskMemory looks up current information on the web for your answer.
You will always see how many messages you have left in the desktop app and on your dashboard — no token jargon, just a clear number.
Message packs — when you need more
If you run out of messages before the month resets, you can buy a message pack from your dashboard. Packs add extra messages that never expire — they sit in your account until you use them, on any plan including Free.
On Free, for example, you might pick up a $5 message pack when your monthly allowance runs out.
Message packs are handy for a top-up, but they cost more per message than the messages included in Pro or Elite. If you chat regularly, upgrading usually gives you better value than buying packs again and again.
