Chrome or Windows may warn on first download

New desktop apps often trigger a brief "suspicious file" or SmartScreen prompt until the installer builds reputation. That is normal for independent software — especially when the file is an unsigned .exe.

In Chrome: open the download list, choose Keep anyway (or Recover suspicious file). On Windows, choose More info Run anyway if SmartScreen appears.

Verify the filename matches DeskMemory_0.1.9_x64-setup.exe, that you started from deskmemory.app/download, and that the file is served from github.com.

Built with Tauri. Your vault is Markdown + YAML on disk; SQLite under .rebel/ holds the search index and chat drafts. Semantic embeddings run locally — nothing leaves your machine except AI requests you send through your account.

Either way, we'll show you how to get past Windows' install warning before your download starts.

Your download is on its way!

Windows may ask if you're sure — here's what to do (it's normal).

When you open DeskMemory_0.1.9_x64-setup.exe, you might see a warning that says "Windows protected your PC — Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting."

  1. Click the tiny "More info" link that appears below the warning text.
  2. Now you'll see a "Run anyway" button. Click that.
  3. The installer will start — follow the prompts as usual.

The file is hosted on GitHub, and DeskMemory never asks for admin permissions except during installation. If you're ever unsure, you can verify the release on GitHub or contact us directly.
